Western Sydney University

About the campaign

Western Sydney University has been very successful in attracting millions in grants for its health and medical research program, including from the prestigious Australian Research Council. This success has placed the institution 11th out of 40 universities in Australia while rising to one of world’s top 300 universities.

Western Sydney is Australia’s third-largest economy and fastest growing region. What happens there in the next two decades, especially in health and medical research, will have a transformational impact on the nation.

Health Reimagined is a decade long campaign focused on supporting 11 different Research Institutes and Centres at the University. Over this time the University is seeking to bring over $1.2 billion in commercial and industry investment in the most advanced health and educational infrastructure to Western Sydney.

The results

The University identified philanthropy as a critical element needed to help reach their goal and engaged Mark to conduct a feasibility study to expand philanthropic support. Deploying a unique methodology Mark identified potential major donors with no previous connection to the University and sought to engage each using a bespoke approach. Working closely with the Director of Development and engaging both the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor, Mark was instrumental in a $10 million gift from Len Ainsworth AM, in support of health and medical research at the University. The Health Reimagined campaign continues.
