About the campaign

There’s nothing like achieving your campaign target in the middle of a global pandemic! This success story started a few years earlier when Leah Purcell had a vision to adapt the iconic Australian story The Drovers Wife by Henry Lawson into a feature film.

With cornerstone investment from Screen Australia and Screen NSW, Leah still needed to raise an additional $1.5 million in private investment to make the movie. A family friend for some 20 years, Leah approached me for help with securing the extra funding.

The results

We developed a compelling case for investment and approached some of the biggest names in arts philanthropy. The response was remarkable. We secured key investments from Neil and Hamish Balnaves (The Balnaves Foundation), Helen and Margaret Kirby (James N Kirby Foundation) and Graeme Wood and Anna Crevanz (Graeme Wood Foundation) and reached $1.5 million in less than 10 gifts. The Drovers Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson had its World Premiere at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival. It was well received by audiences and critics with MGM Studios acquiring the distribution rights for North America and released in Australia through Village Roadshow.

It was a privilege to help Leah (pro-bono) bring her dream to life on the big screen. And it was quite a surprise to see "Mark Quigley, Executive Producer" appear in the opening credits!
